“Boston George” Jung Writing the Official John McAfee Biography Titled No Domain

MONTREAL, April 29, 2013 — Impact Future Media (IMPFM.com) today announced that pop-culture icon and author of Grazing in the Grass Until the Snow Came, which was adapted for Ted Demme’s blockbuster film Blow, “Boston George” Jung has been tapped to write No Domain, the official biography of famed antivirus software pioneer and controversial figure John McAfee.

“We are honored to be working with George Jung on this once in a lifetime project,” stated François Garcia, CEO and Co-founder of Impact Future Media. “Most people know George for being an outlaw, but behind that sits a man who is also one hell of a writer. He is the perfect person to spin this yarn about the enigmatic John McAfee.”

Johnny Depp once said of Jung, “To Otisville Federal Correctional Institute, he is merely Inmate #19225-004. To me, he is not a number, he’s not a convict, and he’s not a criminal. He’s a great man whose wisdom and knowledge, unfortunately, was greatly overshadowed by the choices and mistakes he made all those years ago when he hadn’t even had time to brush himself off from the conditioning wrought upon him by his parents.”

Impact Future Media, which holds the rights to McAfee’s life story, will serve as the North America publisher of No Domain, and is currently in discussions with global publishers for licensing rights in their respective territories. The biography will be available in hardcover, paperback and eBook, and will be published in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and German. No Domain is slated for release early next year.

“I feel like I have known George Jung for a very long time. The words he has put down on paper are the very words I would write if my talent for writing was anywhere near as rarified and beautiful as his,” said John McAfee. “I am overwhelmed by his efforts, and am most grateful to him.”

Nicknamed “Boston George,” Jung is primarily known for being a major player in the cocaine trade in the U.S. in the 1970s and early 1980s. He specialized in the smuggling of cocaine from Columbia on a large scale and was a part of the Medellin Cartel. If you snorted cocaine in the late 70s or early 80s, there was an 85 percent chance it came from Jung.

“John McAfee has lived a spectacular life, turning unbelievable dreams into actuality,” stated George Jung. “In telling his tale I feel that he is now a trusted brother and familiar soul. I am not easily won over, but John’s story is like none I have ever known. John is a voice of all generations, and is an aristocrat beyond adjectives.”

Collaborating on the project are George Jung (author), John McAfee, François Garcia (McAfee biographer and Producer of his biopic Running in the Background), Brian Fitzgerald (editor and publicist) and Ron Fillinger (research), as well as a host of McAfee insiders that have known him throughout the years – family, friends, girlfriends, employees and even his adversaries.

Future Media, Equinoxe team on McAfee biopic

Canadian producers Impact Future Media and Equinoxe Films are partnering on a John McAfee biopic tentatively titled “Running in the Background.”The companies said they will produce and distribute the movie, adapted from the personal memoirs of McAfee. Impact said it had obtained McAfee’s life rights in December.

Variety reported on Jan. 11 that another McAfee project was in the works at Warner Bros., with the studio in final negotiations to acquire feature rights to Joshua Davis’ recent Wired magazine article “John McAfee’s Last Stand.” The “Crazy Stupid Love” team of John Requa and Glenn Ficarra will write, direct and produce through their Zaftig Films banner; Wired publisher Conde Nast Entertainment also produces.

McAfee developed the first commercial anti-virus program at McAfee Associates in the late 1980s and left the company in 1994. He was sought in Belize last year for questioning in the murder of an American expatriate neighbor, fled to Guatemala and was deported to the U.S. on Dec. 12.

Impact said the movie project begins with McAfee’s childhood and continues through to current day.

“John McAfee has entrusted us with his life story, and it was essential that we find the right partners to help bring this quality project to the bigscreen,” said Francois Garcia, co-founder of Impact.

Michael Mosca and Francesca Visconti will produce with Impact under Equinoxe Film’s production arm Starling Road Prods. Equinoxe will handle distribution in Canada.

“Although Mr. McAfee’s recent adventures have been widely publicized, the surface has barely been scratched regarding his life story,” Mosca said.

Mosca’s credits include “Winnie,” starring Jennifer Hudson and Terrence Howard; “A Fish Story”; and “Guillotine.”

The companies said the film is budgeted at $28 million and that Hawaii and Puerto Rico have been considered as potential locations.

Impact said its current projects include feature film “Rum Runners: The Life of Joseph Bey,” TV series “High on Tuna: The Adventures of George Jung” and a co-production with Cartoon Monkey Studio, “The Hinterland,” described as an animated documentary and graphic novel that’s narrated by McAfee and created and directed and by Chad Essley.

MONTREAL, January 21, 2013 — Impact Future Media (IMPFM.com) today announced that it has partnered with Montreal-based Equinoxe Films to produce and distribute its feature film Running in the Background (Working Title), adapted from the personal memoirs of John McAfee. In December of 2012, famed antivirus software pioneer and philanthropist John McAfee entrusted Impact Future Media with the exclusive intellectual property rights to his official life story. The story begins with McAfee’s childhood and continues through to current day, revealing unanswered questions and intimate secrets about his life along the way.

Montreal indie producer Impact Future Media on Monday said it has secured the exclusive intellectual property rights to John McAfee, the antivirus software pioneer now the subject of a murder probe in Belize.

“We are very excited about working with John McAfee, on this initiative,” François Garcia, CEO and co-founder of Impact Future Media, based in Montreal, said in a statement.

The Canadian-based producer said the McAfee project is tentatively titled Running in the Background: The True Story of John McAfee

Impact Future Media is aiming to license, publish or develop the McAfee project across multiple platforms, including film, print, television and digital media.

Company co-founder Brian Fitzgerald, reached in Honolulu, told Playback in an email statement that the deal for McAfee’s life story rights was secured “before his current troubles in central America.”

Impact Future Media, which develops, produces and markets IP for the entertainment industry, is also producing High on Tuna, a TV series that is a prequel to the 2001 movie Blow, which starred Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz.

McAfee’s mounting legal woes in Latin America, where he most recently was detained in Guatemala by police over an investigation into a murder of the software pioneer’s neighbour in Belize, has thrust Impact Future Media into the limelight.

Fitzgerald insisted the life story rights deal was inked last week, and that his company remains in daily contact with the embattled U.S. tech guru.

Impact Future Media ties to McAfee apparently include the producer representing Chad Essley, founder of CartoonMonkey Studio.

Essley is McAfee’s official cartoonist and a key player in the development and management of whoismcafee.com, according to Fitzgerald.

“My most heartfelt thank you goes to Impact Future Media and CartoonMonkey Studio,” McAfee said in a statement issued by Impact Future Media.

TORONTO — U.S. antivirus pioneer John McAfee, recently arrested in Guatemala and facing deportation to Belize as part of a murder investigation, apparently has entrusted his life story to Montreal-based TV producer Impact Future Media.

Honolulu-based Brian Fitzgerald, who co-founded the TV production shingle with CEO Francois Garcia, based in Montreal, said he secured the exclusive IP rights to the embattled tech guru’s story.

“[McAfee] trusts that we will honor his life story in an honest and truthful manner,” Fitzgerald told The Hollywood Reporter in an email statement Monday.

The TV producer is looking for investors and production partners for the project, tentatively titled Running in the Background: The True Story of John McAfee.

Fitzgerald said Impact Future Media inked the deal with McAfee last week and hopes to exploit his life story across a range of media including film, print and TV.

The 67-year-old American businessman so far has eluded police in Belize, where he is wanted for questioning in the slaying of his neighbor, Florida builder Gregory Faull.

Impact Future Media has ties to McAfee through Cartoon Monkey Studio founder Chad Essley, whom it already represents.

The TV producer claims Essley is McAfee’s official cartoonist and is working on the development and management of whoismcafee.com.

As part of the company launch announcement the team at Impact Future Media unveiled three new entertainment properties that are in the works; High on Tuna (television series), Boston George’s Smuggler (game) and Flatrock (animated series).

First on the production schedule is High on Tuna, a television series based on the latest novel written by “Boston George” Jung. Each episode of High on Tuna follows the details of Jung’s biography as it happened. The story begins when Jung moves from Boston to California, where he plans to get a degree in advertising, but plans quickly change as he makes his first foray into drug dealing and smuggling by selling Marijuana. Jung later becomes a major player in the cocaine trade in the U.S. as part of the Medellin Cartel, which was responsible for up to 89 percent of the cocaine smuggled into the United States in the 1970s and 1980s.

“A belief is not an idea held by the mind, it is an idea that holds the mind,” stated Boston George Jung. “Without the dream there is no destiny. Leave all impossibilities at the door, and allow the winds of destiny to blow!”

Next on the drawing board for Impact Future Media is Boston George’s Smuggler, an interactive entertainment property that is all about distribution and control, and intercepting or moving units between points and ports while overcoming numerous obstacles to complete the mission. Although controversial in nature, the goal of developing this game is to spark the public’s thought processes and encourage discussion on illegal drugs, money, greed, and how they affect the world, the economy and our lives. Impact Future Media is currently looking for a game development studio for the concept.

In addition to the properties above, Impact Future Media is also working to develop and produce Flatrock, an animated series by Ian Federov, which offers a fresh and lighthearted look at prison life from the inmate’s perspective. It’s about four likeable losers and their adventures while doing time. Breaking every prison rule and convict code alike, Flatrock, Jake, 8-Ball and Chapo are at odds with everyone. They’re out of luck with literally no place to go.
